ARCHIE: [in voice over] Service members on naval station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, now have a larger number of movies to choose from at the local library.

MATT: Well, some of us, like myself ... I've been here for several months, and budget-minded. Y'know, looking for something free to do on the weekends.
[cut to footage of several DVD cases being stacked inside the library]
MATT: [in voice over] I come and check out movies all the time, and over a period of several months, you start going through movies and you start realizing that there's a need to do something there and contribute somehow.
[cut back to the soldier, speaking directly to the camera]
MATT: And so, some of us got together and decided that it'd be beneficial if we did the movie drive.
[cut to the female librarian (long black hair, black shirt, tattoo sleeve on her left arm) talking with another soldier]
ARCHIE: [in voice over] Library personnel welcomed the new additions to its catalog.

AMY: Well, we have ... um, the DVDs are part of the collection that's heavily used here. Um, with limited resources here, and the more movies we have, the more we can offer to the patrons.
[cut to footage of the DVD shelves inside the library]
AMY: [in voice over] So this is gonna add ... just a huge variety to our collection that we don't have already.
ARCHIE: [in voice over] Reporting from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, I'm Specialist Archie Corbitt, Joint Task Force Public Affairs.

GTMO's MWR Community Library Scheduled for Renovations
Story Number: NNS120227-07
Release Date: 2/27/2012 10:53:00 AM

GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba (NNS) -- The Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Community Library at Naval Station (NS) Guantanamo Bay, Cuba will begin renovations March 1.

The restoration project will address new flooring, repair termite damage, paint interior and exterior walls, and upgrade exterior outlets.

"From Feb. 23 through March 2, library services will not be available as we move our resources to alternate locations at the Child Development Center (CDC) location at the W.T. Sampson Elementary School, and the Teen Center," said NS Guantanamo Bay MWR Supervisory Librarian Amy Webster.

"Beginning March 2, the children's collection will be available in room B9 at the CDC on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m-12 p.m."

Beginning March 4, wi-fi access, public computers, scanners, faxes, copiers, and a limited number of collection materials will be available at the Teen Center from 8 a.m-9 p.m., Sunday-Wednesday only. Library services will not be available at this location Thursday-Saturday.

"The library serves over 135,000 community members a year and the building definitely shows that wear and tear," said Webster. "Once complete, the renovation process will provide a more comfortable and inviting place for patrons. There have not been upgrades to the facility in at least seven years, so it's definitely time for a facelift."
