[scene opens with the camera focused on Nagato standing in the public library, with the bookshelves surrounding her like a tunnel]
KYON: [in voice over] If I have to pass the time with Nagato, this is about the only place to do it.
[cut to Kyon watching Nagato as she wanders through the library]
KYON: [sits down in a chair] Oh brother ...
[cut to Nagato standing at one of the shelves and reading a book, as Kyon has fallen asleep, when his cellphone loudly rings]
KYON: Ahh!
[all of the nearby patrons stare at him (although Nagato simply continues reading), as he quickly answers the phone]
HARUHI: [over the phone] What time do you think it is, you idiot?!
KYON: Sorry, but I actually just woke up ...
HARUHI: [over the phone] Huh?
[Kyon holds the phone away from his ear, as the volume of Haruhi's voice gets even louder]
HARUHI: [over the phone] What did you just say to me?!
KYON: [whispers into phone] We were supposed to meet you at four, right?
HARUHI: [over the phone] Get your butt back here! You got thirty seconds!
[cut to Kyon trying to convince Nagato to put the book down and leave the library]
KYON: [in voice over] I had my work cut out for me. We had to leave.
[cut to Kyon and Nagato standing at the front desk, as he talks to a male librarian in order to get her a library card]
KYON: [in voice over] But getting Nagato to move when she's reading is impossible!
[the librarian hands Kyon her new card, then the scene changes to Kyon literally guiding Nagato out of the library with her book]
KYON: [in voice over] First I had to get her a library card, so she could check out the book.
[cut to outside the library, as Haruhi is standing across the street with her arms folded]
KYON: [in voice over] Meanwhile, I had to ignore the incessant calls from Haruhi ...
HARUHI: Late! Penalty!

From wikipedia.org:

The episodes of the Japanese animated television series "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" are produced by Kyoto Animation and directed by Tatsuya Ishihara. The 2006 anime "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" contains fourteen episodes which aired between April 2 and July 2, 2006 on a number of Japanese television networks.

The anime is based on the Haruhi Suzumiya series of light novels written by Nagaru Tanigawa and illustrated by Noizi Ito, centering on the title character Haruhi Suzumiya, a young high school girl, and her strange antics with her friends in a club she formed called the SOS Brigade, although it is told from the perspective of the male lead, Kyon in nonlinear narrative.

Kyon is the first member recruited into the SOS Brigade, and is a practical person who will stop Haruhi if she goes too far with Brigade activities. The second recruit is a quiet girl named Yuki Nagato who likes to usually keep to herself and read books. Yuki is in fact an artificial life form who has been sent to investigate Haruhi for the time being. The third recruit is a timid girl in the second year of high school named Mikuru Asahina. She is actually a time traveler from the future sent to observe Haruhi. The last member of the SOS Brigade is Itsuki Koizumi, a cheerful young man Kyon's age who is also an esper sent by his Agency to observe Haruhi.

From wikia.com:

Yuki Nagato is the third person to join the SOS Brigade. At first glance, she appears to be an introverted, taciturn bibliophile. She later reveals herself to Kyon as an alien created by the Integrated Data Sentient Entity, and possesses supernatural powers as a result. She was sent to North High to watch over Haruhi Suzumiya, and over the course of her time there she comes to develop insights into being a person, as well as emotions (according to Kyon).

Apparently Yuki has extremely pale skin. There are numerous times in the original light novels where Kyon describes her face, neck, hands, or fingers (as she flips the pages of the book she is reading) as "white". Also, Kyon always comments on Yuki's uncanny ability to walk "soundlessly" (this can be seen in the anime when Yuki is exploring a public library with Kyon who appears puzzled by it). Yuki is attractive enough to earn an "A-" grade from Taniguchi and, as Taniguchi states, has a lot of secret admirers.
