[Lazarus enters the school library]
LIBRARIAN: [from off camera] Quiet!
[Lazarus continues, when the steps on the stairwell leading up to the second floor of the library begins floating by themselves]
LIBRARIAN: [from off camera] No talking, please!
[Lazarus captures a ghost (causing the steps to return to their normal position), when the ghost of the old female librarian suddenly rises up from behind the front desk and floats towards him]
LIBRARIAN: I've had my eye on you, young fellow! Oh yes, I'm busy busy busy! But not too busy to seize upon a promising young library monitor!
[she continues floating around the room in front of Lazarus]
LIBRARIAN: A noisy rascal, I don't deny ... but some of my best monitors have always had a bit of "bang" and "clatter" about them!
[Lazarus walks up to the desk with a look of bewilderment]
LIBRARIAN: Vim's the word, or - thesaurus ascending - spark! Verve! Vigor!
LAZARUS: Hey, listen to me, lady--
[she floats over and shushes him]
LIBRARIAN: Shh shh shh! Silence is golden, monitor ... And what else is golden, hm? The monitor's pledge! Lunchtime breaks and after school library time, your golden rule!
LAZARUS: Yeah, but I'm not even a--
LIBRARIAN: Shh!
LAZARUS: I haven't said I'm--
LIBRARIAN: Nonsense! Think not what your school can do for you, but what you can do for your school!
[she floats into the air and begins singing]
LIBRARIAN: Sing hey hey hey, for old Montsaye!
[Lazarus points his gun into the air and fires, momentarily silencing the librarian]
LIBRARIAN: [calmly] Indeed, time for your first assignment. Are you ready? Silence isn't that golden ... This is what you came for! Do it! Are you ready?
[Lazarus says nothing]
LIBRARIAN: Books borrowed and never returned! Somewhere in the school building, find and return - nursed to a fit state of shelf - the following items.
[Lazarus gives her a dirty look]
LIBRARIAN: Firstly, "An Astral Odyssey, the Diaries of Professor Peter Richmond." And, missing from our history section, "The Black Hawk, the Medieval Legend" ...
[she flies up into the air and disappears]
LIBRARIAN: Begone!

[Lazarus finds "The Black Hawk" (labelled in his inventory as "History Book") inside a school bus in the parking lot, and returns it to the front desk of the library]
LIBRARIAN: Thank you, young monitor! You're a credit to Montsaye!
[she picks up the book and inspects it]
LIBRARIAN: Ah yes, a true story ... Return it to our History section.
[she hands the book back and disappears, so Lazarus heads for the stacks on the second floor and places it in the correct area, causing him to teleport to an old castle]
LIBRARIAN: [from off camera] Sir William Hawksmoor, the origin of the legend of Black Hawk's Night. And for a time in Europe, the Feast of Black Hawk's Night was as important as our Halloween or Mardi Gras.
[Lazarus starts climbing the stairs, where the librarian is floating above him]
LIBRARIAN: Eventually, it became a happy "family festival", but it began as a dark anniversary ... the one night of the year when parents never dared to leave their children alone.
[she starts floating away, so Lazarus follows her]
LIBRARIAN: In England in the thirteenth century, there lived a legendary knight, Sir William Hawksmoor. To some, he was "The Royal Hawk," a loyal and brave crusader, fearless protector of the King. To most, though, and they would never breathe it in his presence, he was "The Black Hawk." Valiant, yes, but deadly!
[she starts floating in the middle of the room]
LIBRARIAN: At home, an aristocrat to be feared. Abroad, a bloodthirsty warrior, slaughtering wildly in the name of King and God. Just as with his favorite hunting bird, the King would go nowhere without his protector, Hawksmoor. The knight became a great favorite in the royal court, loved for his bravery and unswerving loyalty. Admired for his charm and wit. Frank and fearless in his conversations with the King, he became an increasingly valued counselor.
[Lazarus continues watching her, as the librarian has her back turned to him]
LIBRARIAN: But, such a close affiliation with the King was doomed to breed envy and political enemies ... A powerful group began plotting against The Black Hawk. They had to decide which of their feelings was the stronger, their hatred or their fear.
[the librarian disappears, as Lazarus watches a group of knights approach Sir Hawksmoor on the lower level]
HAWKSMOOR: You?! The King will avenge this treachery! This slaughter!
KNIGHT: The King? Every last arrangement, which tiny throat to cut first, the undressing of your ... lady.
[Hawksmoor gets a look of defeat on his face]
KNIGHT: Everything was commanded by the King.
[they surround him, as Lazarus checks his notebook (which reads "Need to find two books. So 'Wormboy' is some medieval prince."), then is suddenly transported back to the library ... so, he heads back to the front desk, where the librarian is waiting for him]
LIBRARIAN: Somewhere in the school, a second book to find ... Begone!
[...]
[Lazarus finds "An Astral Odyssey" (labelled in his inventory as "Diary") and returns it to the front desk of the library]
LIBRARIAN: Ah yes, "An Astral Odyssey, the Diaries of Professor Peter Richmond" ...
[she picks up the book and inspects it]
LIBRARIAN: What's this? This is an outrage! Just look at it, monitor, just look at it!
[she floats around the room in anger]
LIBRARIAN: One page remaining, the final entry, and the rest ... torn asunder! Shocking's the word!
[she stops floating and seems to think to herself]
LIBRARIAN: Now, let me see ... Who was the last borrower? Oh yes, they won't fool this librarian!
[she looks at the back of the book, then gives out a gasp]
LIBRARIAN: Shock upon shock! A member of the faculty ... Is nothing sacred? The vandal, the phillistine, is our own Professor Brook!
LAZARUS: He may be guilty of a lot worse than that, ma'am.
[she floats towards him]
LIBRARIAN: You don't mean ... pen in the margin?!
[Lazarus gives a look of disbelief, but the librarian continues]
LIBRARIAN: Well, monitor, I suggest you read this final page and then return the book to the Biography section.
[she hands the book back and disappears, so Lazarus reads the final page]
LAZARUS: [reading] "How stupid I have been, so blind to the events around me, thinking I could separate my two worlds. From the beginning then. I returned from my latest journey to find my centre of operations compromised. My machines in a state of dis-repair. This was only the beginning. Kate's body gone, and if it could not get any worse, when I emerged into the school itself I found a scene of death and destruction, far in excess of what has gone before. Ten schoolkids dead in the wreckage, police crawling through the area, how can I explain to them what has happened, they will think I'm mad. My only chance is to try and build a gate, and go after the murderers myself. I have sealed off the area until I return."
[Lazarus heads for the stacks on the second floor and places it in the correct area, causing him to teleport back to the old castle, where he finds The Black Hawk standing over an injured Professor Richmond]
HAWKSMOOR: I wonder ... can they see me now? Standing victorious in this very room.
RICHMOND: Aah ... urgh ...
HAWKSMOOR: Is it as painful as you feared professor? You ran away to hide, didn't you? Pure fear ... but then you chose not to remain hidden.
[Professor Richmond tries crawling away, but The Black Hawk grabs him]
HAWKSMOOR: You had to search, to "hunt", to challenge things beyond your simplistic comprehension ... and that way, I found you.
RICHMOND: I was never looking for you ... You were nothing!
HAWKSMOOR: You should have respected your fear, Professor. Known your limits.
RICHMOND: Why ... why murder so many innocents?
HAWKSMOOR: Huh ... They won't stay innocent. All my pretty ones had no love for me, nothing but contempt, on the other side of death.
[he kicks Richmond]
RICHMOND: You killed ten students ... who had nothing to do with this.
HAWKSMOOR: Was ten a little excessive? Would one have been enough? Or four? Six? After all, I had to snare you ... How else could I kill you?
[he reaches down and grabs him by the throat]
HAWKSMOOR: And then eat your soul!
[Professor Richmond reaches into his jacket and pulls out a ghost grenade]
RICHMOND: Eat this!
[he shoves it into The Black Hawk's chest, which causes him to explode]
HAWKSMOOR: Ahh!
[Lazarus checks his notebook (which now includes the line "Richmond is innocent!", then is suddenly transported back to the library ... so, he heads back to the front desk, where the librarian is waiting for him]
LIBRARIAN: And now, monitor, it is time for us to go.
[she points towards the hallway leading to the school auditorium and disappears, so Lazarus enters and finds The Black Hawk standing over an unconscious Anna, as if acting out a scene from a play]
HAWKSMOOR: "So foul and fair a day I have not seen ... "
[he looks up and sees that Lazarus has entered]
HAWKSMOOR: Ah ... an audience at last.
[Lazarus runs up to the stage]
HAWKSMOOR: "Me thought I heard a voice cry, 'Sleep no more. Macbeth doth murder sleep.'"
[Lazarus points his gun at him]
HAWKSMOOR: "Is this a dagger I see before me?"
LAZARUS: No, it's a Glock 17 ... police issue!
HAWKSMOOR: [feigns panic] "Thou canst not say I did it! Never shake thy gory locks at me!"
LAZARUS: Take your tights off, Worm Boy, you've lost your audience ... unless you hadn't noticed.
[Lazarus points towards the empty seats in the auditorium]
HAWKSMOOR: Caviar to pigs, I'm feeding! I shall succumb to the spirit of Barnum and Bailey ... give 'em what they want to see!
[Lazarus looks over at his unconscious partner]
LAZARUS: Steele! Steele!
HAWKSMOOR: She cannot hear you, cretin ... Well well, have you enjoyed yourself, chasing up and down, firing popguns at my little troupe of pets?
LAZARUS: Cut the crap, Hawkface! I don't care how many times you've died on your ass before, I'm taking you down!
HAWKSMOOR: You intend to arrest ... a ghost?
LAZARUS: Whatever, I know what you did in this school two years ago, and all of that's real!

Ghosthunter is a video game based on ghost hunting developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. The game was released on the PlayStation 2 in Europe on December 5, 2003, North America on August 17, 2004.
Ghosthunter follows the adventures of Detroit police Officer Lazarus Jones (voice by Rob Paulsen) on his first day on the job. He is sent with his partner, Anna Steele, on a routine call to investigate a disturbance in the abandoned Montsaye High School (which also was the scene of an unsolved massacre). After the two split up to investigate the building, Jones discovers a paranormal research laboratory along with a digitized version of its creator, Professor Peter Richmond (voiced by Joe Morton). As Jones investigates the laboratory, he inadvertently releases the ghosts contained within it, including an evil ghost named Lord William Hawksmoor (voiced by Sir Michael Gambon).
Anna is subsequently kidnapped by Hawksmoor and Jones, aided by the digital Richmond, is sent to recapture the escaped ghosts and rescue his partner. Lazarus' secondary quest is to find Professor Brooke, the reason behind Lazarus and Anna's visit to the school, and to question him about the massacre that happened two years ago. Lazarus is told early in the game that Professor Brooke is actually Professor Richmond, who was actually a Ghosthunter, searching for Kate Heller's / Astral's body in order for her to regain her true form.
Early in his adventure, Jones meets and bonds with the ghost of a woman named Kate Heller (Astral). Astral supports Jones by granting him the ability to see dead people as well as use her other abilities to help him on his quest to rescue Anna Steele and stop Hawksmoor in his quest to regain a living body. Professor Richmond gives Lazarus new equipment suitable for ghost hunting, including a rifle, which uses ghost energy, and a special grenade, which captures weakened ghosts.
